Perspective: Coulomb fluids--weak coupling, strong coupling, in between and beyond.
We present a personal view on the current state of statistical mechanics of Coulomb fluids with special emphasis on the interactions between macromolecular surfaces, concentrating on the weak and the strong coupling limits. Both are introduced for a (primitive) counterion-only system in the presence of macroscopic, uniformly charged boundaries, where they can be derived systematically. Later we...
متن کاملStrong-coupling phases of the anisotropic Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation.
We study the anisotropic Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation using nonperturbative renormalization group methods. In contrast to a previous analysis in the weak-coupling regime, we find the strong-coupling fixed point corresponding to the isotropic rough phase to be always locally stable and unaffected by the anisotropy even at noninteger dimensions. Apart from the well-known weak-coupling and the now...
متن کاملTowards a strong coupling theory for the KPZ equation
After a brief introduction we review the nonperturbative weak noise approach to the KPZ equation in one dimension. We argue that the strong coupling aspects of the KPZ equation are related to the existence of localized propagating domain walls or solitons representing the growth modes; the statistical weight of the excitations is governed by a dynamical action representing the generalization of...
متن کاملStrong Coupling Solution to Schrodinger Equation: The Mixing of States
In this paper we give some ideas that can be useful to solve Schrodinger equations in the case when the Hamiltonian contains a large term. We obtain an expansion of the solution in reciprocal powers of the large coupling constant. The procedure followed consists in considering that the small part of the Hamiltonian engenders a motion adiabatic to the motion generated by the large part of the same.
متن کاملStrong-Coupling Fixed Point of the KPZ Equation
– We present a new approach to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation based on the non-perturbative renormalisation group (NPRG). The NPRG flow equations derived here, while embedding all the known analytical results, moreover allow to follow the strong-coupling fixed point describing the rough phase in all dimensions, and thus yield the qualitatively-robust complete phase diagram of the proble...
